How to harness creative talent and fulfil your potential

It is never too late to try and learn how to be creative. Even if you think you are too old to try something new, there are lots of ways out there to channel your artistry and creativity. Those of us lucky enough to have talent in various artistic ways are truly blessed. Artistic self-expression is a fantastic way of sharing your unique gift with the world and creating an outlet for your creativity. Expressive arts come in many forms – here are just a few you could try:

1. Drawing

We learn to draw from a very early age – your parents probably displayed your infant scribbles proudly! There is absolutely no limit to the expressive form of drawing. You can utilise so many styles and techniques – nothing is off the table! The sheer amount of media available is staggering – pencils, charcoal, pastels, watercolours, oil paints, spray paints, ink and markers can be used on virtually any surface imaginable. Even the most rudimentary doodles and sketches are a form of creative self expression.

2. Dancing

Dancing is a performing art which is popular throughout the world and takes on so many different forms. In hundreds of countries, dancing is an extremely important part of their cultural heritage and identity. Even the earliest religions danced for their Gods, and as a way to pass down stories of significance. Today, dance is practised as a form of self-expression as well as a form of exercise and enjoyment, and can be learnt by both those old and young.

3. Singing

Singing and creating music are two of the most popular forms of creative self-expression. There are thousands of different singing and music styles which are enjoyed across the globe, from opera to rock, jazz to hip-hop. You don’t have to be a professional to enjoy singing, as it is outlet for professing all kinds of emotions. Even singing in the shower is a form of artistic creativity, and is great for expressing your feelings and emotions.

4. Photography and Editing

The abundance of smart phones means that everyone can carry a camera with them wherever they go and capture moments which mean something to them. Photographs speak differently to everyone that views them, and shots don’t have to be highly stylised for them to be enjoyed. Editing your photographs can be done with various forms of software, and you can create something truly beautiful for yourself and others.

Using your artistic talent is one of the best ways to find fulfilment in your life – by finding out what you’re good at and what you enjoy, you’ll both improve your mood and learn to express yourself in different ways.
